How to Get Rid Of Your Moving Boxes Properly

December 3rd, 2009 by Miami Moving

Although reusable crates can now be requested to most Miami moving companies, it’s a wonder why some people still prefer using corrugated boxes for their moving needs. Moving boxes sure do the job more efficiently than reusable crates since it gives an added protection for the shipments inside but its aftermath is not at all great to look at. Moreover, getting rid of them is a real headache to the “barely unpacked” family—adding stress to an already stressful situation.

A normal, average person would just throw everything out of the window and let the garbage collector take care of these moving boxes. While this is the most convenient way to get rid of them, there are better ways to solve your problems with moving boxes and help save the environment at the same time.

In order to be eco-friendly, we must bear in mind the reuse/recycle principle. Here are some tips on how to get rid of your moving boxes properly and guilt-free:

•    Resell your moving boxes. Good news is, there are companies that buy used moving boxes. Once they get the moving boxes off your hand, it will undergo quality control and will then be sold to other people. In fact, if you are looking for moving boxes to use, this will be the best source for you.
•    Give them away. If you know of someone who might be interested with your boxes, you can hand your used boxes to him, just make sure that your boxes are still good for use.
•    Find recycling centers in your area. It is not impossible to find a moving box in bad shape after a move. If you find yourself in possession of such, drive them over to a recycling area where they truly belong.

Moving To a Smaller House

May 18th, 2009 by Miami Moving

Moving is, in itself, poses stress to a normal human being. Aside from all the things you need to secure, inspect and organize for the move, it breaks the familiarity and demands time and attention—things you sometimes forget to give yourself, much less to something as fruitless as moving. Moving, in a way, is considered as a chore; a big chore/huge task that virtually there’s no going around it.

It’s a given fact that moving marks a big change in your life. But, moving to a smaller house is something different and much harder to accept. This is especially true for older adults experiencing empty-nest syndrome or just have to move to a smaller place for better household management. When moving to a smaller house, you are going to downsize your belongings as well or else, it won’t fit your new place.

Usually, a family who is downsizing their household should either sell or give away their excess possession. Some find console on the thought that somebody else will find a suitable place for your priceless belongings while others look forward to the things they can now buy to cheer up their new place; yet others are not ready to let go.

Storage facilities are there to keep your belongings safe, up until you are ready to deal with them. Climate-controlled facilities will protect your things from environmental hazards. Storage units come in different sizes to accommodate your need for space. This will eliminate the urgency to dispatch your belongings while you are still making the necessary arrangements for the move which is quite a handful in itself. With storage solutions available for you, you can deal with the moving more effectively.

Packing Materials

If you are moving then chances are you are going to need a lot of packaging materials.  In order to cut cost you can call your moving company as they usually purchase their packaging materials direct from the source.  Make sure that you order a lot of tape, boxes, labels and all the necessities.

If you are concerned about all that going to waste, there are environment friendly manufacturers who make “green” boxes.  These are made from recycled materials.  Also you can donate or sell your used packaging materials like boxes to ecobox.com.  They also sell used boxes so you can cut your moving costs even more.

There are also special packaging materials that you can buy for valuables, oddly shaped furniture, antiques and collectibles.  You have to stock up on tissue, cushioning, crates and other packaging materials to protect your valuables.

Stocking up on packaging materials allow you to get an early start on your packing and avoid stress as the big move comes.  Start with items you do not normally use.  If you have items that can be shipped away earlier, pack them up.  This would minimize the things you need to keep track of.

Moving Schedule

Not all of us have the option of going full service during a move.  And even if some of us do have this option, the anxiety of having people go over our things may bee too much for some of us to handle.  So here are a few tips in order to better manage your time as the big moving day comes nearer.

As soon as you find out that you are going to move make a list of the people you have to notify immediately.  This might include your bank, your kids’ school, your realtor or landlord, Utilities Company and any others.  As soon as you can, start buying packaging materials and boxes so that you can pack a little at a time and not feel overwhelmed with the idea of packing all your belongings.

Now that you have boxes, start by packing away things you do not use everyday.  Also begin sorting things which you may want to bring with you and things that need to be donated.  If you are thinking of hiring a moving company, start looking for one as soon as possible. Shop around and find one that you are most comfortable with.   Agree on terms and begin working as a team in order to make your move as efficient as possible.

One week before your move, boxes and crates should be sorted accordingly.  All of these should be labeled with its contents.  Most of these should be ready for pick up by the moving company.

On the day itself, there should only be the actual loading of the van to be done.  Once the van is packed you will only need to secure your jewelry and other small valuables to your person.  Before completely leaving your old location, be sure to do a one last walk over.  Check and make sure that everything is empty and that nothing has been left behind.
